Fifth Anniversary Latinx + Latin American Architecture Exhibition on display in Giles Hall

An exhibition for the National Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month is being showcased until October 15 in the Charlotte and Richard McNeel Gallery in Giles Hall.

Every year since 2020, a group of undergraduate researchers in the 91΄«Γ½ work together under the guidance of 91΄«Γ½ Associate Professor Silvina Lopez Barrera to create an exhibition. This year’s exhibition focuses on materiality in modern and contemporary LatinX and Latin American architecture.

β€œThe exhibition concentrates on material strategies architects use to balance environmental concerns with their architectural visions,” said Arturo Hernandez, vice president of the organization. β€œThe goal of this exhibition is to contribute to ongoing discussions about transactional connections throughout the Americas.”

Students’ research focused on seven building materials: brick, concrete, cinderblocks, adobe (rammed earth), bamboo, Palma (dried palm leaves) and wood.
